Over 90% of NSW's electricity is made by burning coal. This releases harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average household produces 8.5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year " thats twice as much as the average family car!

Scientists believe that increasing levels of greenhouse gas cause a rise in the Earth's temperature, known as global warming. Some of the predicted effects are:

• increasing severe storms, floods and droughts

• rising sea levels

• increasing spread of infectious diseases like malaria, carried by pests

• bleaching of coral.
