Selecting Tapware

When choosing or deciding on the correct tapware for your home, consider the following

Price

Whilst price is a consideration, remember, you will get what you pay for and the cheapest is not necessarily the best.

There are many "good" brands available from reputable tapware manufacturers. Be sure the tapware you purchase is made in Australia to Australian standards and that the manufacturer has or is close to gaining accreditation to AS 3718.
Functionality

Choose tapware that is functional, practical and that looks good. In most cases chrome finish will be the most hard wearing service. Polished brass is regaining popularity, however, it is best to purchase polished brass unlaquered and this will tarnish quite rapidly.

Constant cleaning with Brasso or similar cleaner would be necessary to retain the shine. However, many people like the " tarnished" look . Gold plated finished can deteriorate in humid areas and will eventually wear. Most people opt for a gold finish in spite of the drawbacks as this is the look they want. There are many many finishes available, obviously, some are more hard-wearing than others but there is definitely a finish for you.

Style

The style of Tapware has changed over the last few years quite dramatically. There are many brands. style and variety to choose from. There are traditional styles, mixers of all descriptions, turn-of-the-century tapware, ultra modern and many styles in between. Look in magazines, go to the many and varied display centres and showrooms and ask for advice from the trained staff you will find there. If you have a problem bathroom or renovation or cannot find exactly what you want some manufacturers will make to specification for you P.O.A.

Choose a good Plumber.

Always go to the trouble of getting two or three quotes for the job. Talk to the plumber, ask him about his business and his experience. You BOTH need to have a proper understanding of what the job will involve and exactly what expectations you have of him. Don't choose the lowest price because it's the cheapest, choose the" best" quote, based on all of the facts.
