WINDOW COVERINGS

Window coverings perform a number of functions, they

  • Insulate against heat and cold
  • Reduce noise
  • Control light
  • Give privacy
  • Decorate

When choosing window coverings decide what style best suits your needs, the window covering should reflect the mood you are creating. Colour adds "feeling", for instance blues and greens give a cool effect, while red and yellow are warmer colours.

When selecting the fabric there is a wealth of possibilities patterned, jacquard, plain - flat - shinny, co-ordinate ranges, backed fabrics, sheer fabrics - plain - textured - lace. The variety of blinds available cover a wide range of types from Holland, bonded, Roman, Venetians - traditional style timber, pleated shades, and textured canvas.

Before deciding on any covering consider the usage of the room, its size, and the size of your windows, If you are pushed for space and you need to position furniture directly under the window, drapes would not be as practical as an Austrian, Roman, or Venetian blind.

Lining is often overlooked, but it can make a big difference to the insulation qualities, noise reduction, light control, and it protects your valuable curtains from the effects of sunlight, gives more volume to curtains, and helps the draping quality of curtains.
