Draughts - Ventilation | House Location & Layout | Weather Stripping | Building Construction | Vents Flues & Chimneys | The Importance of Ventilation
page 1 of 1

LAYOUT

If the house is exposed to undesirable winds, there is a greater potential for draughts to occur. If the house cannot be located in a sheltered position, a row of shrubs and trees on the windward side can provide a suitable windbreak.

It is particularly important to provide shelter for entrance doors. This can be achieved by recessing the entrance, or by building an entrance porch and a wall on the windward side.

Some rooms, such as kitchens and bathrooms, require higher ventilation rates. These rooms should be located so that they can be closed off from the rest of the house.
