WHAT MAKES ONE KITCHEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ANOTHER OF SIMILAR DESIGN

Materials used - Different materials vary in price, for example, a granite benchtop will be more costly than timber or laminate, choosing brass door knobs or handles may be dearer than plastic or timber, and choosing solid timer doors will cost more than laminated doors. German hinges are the best quality available, but are more expensive than other makes. Waterproof board is more costly than non-water proof board.

These are just a few examples of where the hidden costs are.

Type of Timber - The timber used in kitchens, for example benchtops or doors, may vary in hardness, pattern, make and quality, and therefore vary in price.

Size - The larger the kitchen, the more materials will be used and hence will be more costly than a smaller kitchen.

Style - Generally speaking, modern style kitchens are less costly than the old look / Heritage style kitchen. This is because of the materials used and the time taken to achieve the old world charm.

Custom Made Kitchen vs. Flatpack System - More often than not, custom made kitchens are more costly than flatpacks.

Custom made kitchens are specifically designed and measured to suit unique shapes, sizes, and styles. They are cut, fitted and installed by the manufacturer. On the other hand a flatpack system is pre-cut into standard sizes and easily assembled and installed by the customer.

Flatpack systems are pre-cut standard size carcass (cabinets), which come in a variety of sizes. This alternative is cheaper, and easier to assemble and install yourself, and then you can purchase the doors and benchtop of your choice.

Appliances - Although kitchen appliances are generally considered to be expensive, you are actually paying for quality products and less repair bills down the track, so its important to choose wisely and seek professional advice.
