Step 3

Prepare your Wall

  1. On existing plasterboard walls that are flat and straight, panelling can be directly fixed to dry, sound surfaces with wall board adhesive.

If the walls are uneven or masonry-brick, dressed, K.D. softwood battens (around 42 x 19mm) should be securely fixed to the walls at centres not exceeding 600mm - such battens should be packed out where necessary to present a level surface in both horizontal and vertical directions.

Extend batten framework as close as possible to both the floor and ceiling levels - batten completely around electrical fittings and ensure enough cable slack is present to enable the switch/plug unit to be brought forward to the new level.

  2. With new timber frame construction, panelling can be directly fixed horizontally across the wall studs - for vertical board installation, timber noggings should be located at 600mm (max.) centres. (For the 15mm thick "CP series" panellings, 900mm centred noggings are acceptable.)
