Selecting an Energy Efficient Appliance

ENERGY STAR labels

ENERGY STAR is an international standard for energy-efficient office equipment like computers, printers, photocopiers, and home electronics like TVs, DVDs, VCRs, and, audio equipment.

By buying equipment that complies with the ENERGY STAR standard, and making sure its energy-saving features are enabled, you can save money on your electricity bills and help the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In Australia, the cost to consumers of standby power is estimated at around $500 million every year - and resulting in greenhouse gas emissions of more than 5 megatonnes (CO2 equivalent) annually.

Features of ENERGY STAR products

ENERGY STAR label is applied to products that consume very little power when on standby. They use up to 75% less energy than other products, saving you money and helping to protect the environment.

Most of the energy used by products on standby is not performing any useful function. A small amount can be needed for maintaining memory or an internal clock, remote control activation or other features. But most standby power is wasted energy. ENERGY STAR enabled products minimise this waste.
