A Polyurethane finish is usually associated with a modern look and is either high gloss or semi gloss in texture. The cabinet is made of craftwood which is a dense, moisture resistant fibre board with a smooth surface that lends itself to painted finishes.

Polyurethane is a two part paint mixture and is applied in a dust free environment using a spray gun " much like the process used in car finishes. It results in a hard durable surface.

Laminated or laid up surfaces are specified when a cabinet is required that has certain colour tonings that are usually not available in standard HMR boards. The process is to cut thin laminates and stick them onto raw boards including edging. Since it is a labour intensive method it is more costly to produce but it does give the flexibility of colour matching or various colour combinations in one cabinet.

Vinyl covered surfaces, a recent development now available to companies that specialise in making vanity doors is vacuum vinyl covering. This is an economical method of having a moulded door look without having to go through the process of painting. Gloss and matt finishes are available with many combinations of mould design.

Timber vanities are very popular in period bathrooms and are often also used in conjunction with modern decor. There are many designs reflecting the atmosphere of yesteryear but they are all heavily influenced by today's requirements for functional bathrooms. The timbers used range from special pines, oregon, Tasmanian oak, rosewood, cedar and jarrah. Pine and oregon are the most popular timbers and yield the best price and flexibility of design options. The units are made entirely of solid timber and stained and polished to give the true feeling and texture of an original cabinet. Patina or age marks add to the old period effect.
