ELECTRICITY SAFETY AROUND THE HOME
- Before unplugging an electrical appliance always
ensure the power point is turned off.
- Remove appliances from the power point by pulling
the plug, not the cord.
- Do not continue to use an appliance that is
damaged. Have it repaired or replaced immediately.
- Never allow children to play with power points or
switches.

- Place power boards in ventilated areas and keep
them free of dust and dirt.
KITCHEN APPLIANCES
- Regularly clean ovens and hot plates to avoid build up of spilled fats and burnt foods.
- Always unplug the toaster before trying to remove lodged items and regularly clean
crumbs from your toaster as a build up can be hazardous.
- Never leave cooking unattended.
- When leaving your home, ensure to switch off all appliances and heaters.
ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND SAFETY
- When buying a second hand appliance it is a good idea to have it thoroughly checked by
a licensed electrician or appliance retailer.
- Never touch switches or appliances with wet hands.
- Always turn your electric blanket off at the power point when you get into bed.
- Place safety plugs into unused power points to prevent accidental contact.
- Replace all frayed cords and damaged plugs.
- Keep cords away from hot water and wet surfaces and out of reach of children.
