The Bedroom
Provide enough power outlets close to the bed .
Generally, next to a bed you are likely to need power for a clock radio, a bedside lamp and an electric blanket. Each appliance requires a separate socket. Many people only install one twin power outlet only to discover they cannot use all appliances simultaneously. We recommend the installation of at least two twin power outlets adjacent to the bed in all bedrooms.
Install a Ceiling Sweep fan
Ceiling sweep fans are a great way of providing economical cooling in summer and improving the economy of heating in winter. Especially effective for cooling in more humid areas, ceiling sweep fans will
quietly and gently distribute air around the bedroom to make it
far more comfortable.
Most ceiling sweep fans are
reversible which allows you to
use them in winter to circulate
warm air that gathers near the
ceiling which will improve the
efficiency of your heating.
Consider installing Dimmers or Smart Meks for variable lighting
Dimmers and Smart Meks are ideal for all types of bedrooms. You can reduce the intensity of the lights when watching a movie in bed or to help your children feel safe before they go to sleep.
Smart Meks are an economical way of adjusting light
intensity. Available in both dimmers and timers, Smart
Meks look like any normal switch but with the added
benefit of fully controlled, adjustable lighting.
Install an Indoor Infrascan in the walk in robe
An indoor infrascan in the walk in robe can provide dramatic cost savings because they automatically switch off lights when they are not needed. Infrascans operate on body heat movement so when you enter the robe with an arm full of clothes, the lights will automatically turn on and when you leave they will turn off after a suitable delay.
Strip Heaters and EcoHeat for the Bedroom
There are a wide range of strip heaters that are ideal for all sized bedrooms. Because they are wall mounted, strip heaters are unobtrusive and can be placed out of reach of small children which makes them one of the safest ways to heat your home.
EcoHeat has an innovative thin film element design that produces radiant heat, which warms people, not the space around them. Its large heating surface means it has a low surface temperature which is extremely safe and very economical.
Include an EcoHeat Humidry in the Wardrobe
Ideal for humid areas, the compact ecoheat humidry produces gentle radiant heat to keep clothing and expensive equipment safe and dry. The unit costs less than one cent per hour to run and works efficiently at low temperatures with no hot spots that could cause overheating.
Install a wall mounted TV antenna connection socket
Ensure you install a Smoke Alarm
Smoke Alarms are now mandatory in all new homes in most states of Australia. Smoke inhalation is the main cause of death in domestic fires and as the smell of smoke wont wake you, a quality detection network is essential.
The early warning a smoke alarm provides means less chance of major fire damage and, more importantly less chance of lives being lost.
Smoke Alarms can be mains powered, with a 9V battery backup as an additional safety feature. Also available are smoke alarms that run off a 9V battery.
The smoke alarm provides constant visual status that the system is working correctly, includes a hush facility, and up to 40 units can be interconnected together. This means if one alarm is triggered all other interconnected alarms will be triggered, alerting everyone in the house.
Make allowances for other appliances in the Bedroom
There are a huge range of electrical appliances that are often used in the bedroom and these include:
- Television - Radio - Hair Dryer - Light
- Electric Curlers - Electric Shaver - Iron - Vacuum
- Heater - Standing Fan - Video - Telephone
Make sure you have enough power outlets installed to cope.
