Electricity

There are many hazards in the bathroom due to the mixing of electricity and water.

Electrical appliances such as hairdryers and shavers should be kept away from sinks and baths and put away after use.

Don't use floor type bar heaters in the bathroom.

And on the subject of water and electricity, do not use electric blankets with children who still wet their beds.

Kids love trying to shove objects into the power points.

A good form of prevention is to use a plastic socket protector in the power points that are not being used.

They fit into the plug, and the child cannot touch any live parts.

One of the best forms of protection comes from a safety switch fitted to your metre board. It senses if there is a fault in the circuit, such as baby pushing scissors into the power point, or faulty appliances, and switches off the power before the child can be electrocuted.

In many cases your house may already be fitted with one. If not call your local electrician or electricity supply company, and get one fitted. If you rent, ring up the landlord, and ask them to have one fitted to the house.

Avoid overloading power points.

If you want to run a number of appliances of the one outlet its best to use a power board rather than double adapters.
